Expanded Kitchen

Our clients wanted to create an open space for extensive entertaining that required removing the supporting wall between the kitchen and the dining room.

Project Overview:

We discovered significant issues relating to structural elements  and resolved them took a lot of time and thought. Flow was important around both the entertainment island and the work island. New flooring throughout added continuity. Bold color minimizes distraction and the colors contrast well between the kitchen and the dining room.

The removal of a load bearing wall that also was found to have plumbing and heating vents required the relocation of the plumbing and an additional support beam wider than originally thought. The bulkhead required creative ideas to lessen the impact. The clients entertain extensively and wanted separate areas for preparation and serving. The eating area had railings that needed to be addressed.

Design Solutions

Beginning with the client requirements, plans are prepared with special attention to all design details. Selections are pulled together from a variety of sources to achieve the new look. Guidance is provided for all aspects of the project from appliances, to cabinetry and all finish selections.

The removal of the supporting wall gave way to a large open space that created a work area along with the dining, entertaining side. Two large islands with much needed storage and organization within the drawers made for the separate areas the client wanted. The shift for the old dining room into the previously unused living room allowed for the fabulous cooking areas. Given the larger bulkhead required the use of floating shelves created interest and decorative item display. Bold color was introduced to enhance the whole new look. The eating area open to the family room railings were replaced with half wall and cabinet to provide for family file storage and server space.
